Simon

Simon

Director: Registered Surveyor

Graduating with a Bachelor of Surveying from the University of NSW in 1983, Simon returned to Nowra to join Yates and Watkinson. Registration as a Surveyor in NSW and Membership with the Institution of Surveyors followed in 1985. In 1993, Simon became a partner with Watkinson Apperley Pty Limited (now SET Consultants). Simon continues to embrace and evolve with advancements within the surveying industry while enjoying building community in a regional context for society, the profession and the workplace.

Away from the workplace, Simon managed a parallel career of 21 years with the Australian Army Reserve, serving with the corps of Royal Australian Engineers. These days the quest for difference, adventure and responsibility are found in performing duties as a topman on the square rig sailing ship, James Craig.

Adrian

Adrian

Director: Civil Engineer

Adrian completed a double degree in 1998 at Newcastle University receiving First Class Honours in both Civil Engineering and Surveying. Upon graduation Adrian worked for two years as the Site Engineer on a major civil works project providing valuable understanding of construction before joining SET in 2000 in the role of Civil Design and Project Management. With over 20 years in land development Adrian has built up a wide range of experience in all stages and types of development.

Adrian is a firm believer in attention to detail, for finding solutions tailored to individual sites and that good communication can ensure that the end result meets the goals of all stakeholders.

David

David

Director: Environment Engineer

David is a highly qualified and experienced Environment Engineer with a Master of Environmental Engineering Science, Graduate Diploma in Bushfire Protection and First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Environmental Science Advanced (Major in Land Resources). As a Practitioner in Bushfire Planning and Design David also holds the highest level of accreditation (Level 3) through FPA Australia and is Member of Planning Institute of Australia.

David’s expertise across the Environmental, Bushfire and Planning fields allow him to provide meaningful, holistic advice. He is focused on performance-based solutions and advocates strongly for our clients.

John

John

Registered Surveyor

John Buckingham is an accomplished land surveyor based in the Shoalhaven region, with a career that reflects his dedication and expertise. Starting out as a survey assistant at SET Consultants, he worked his way up through rigorous study and practical experience, ultimately earning his registration as a land surveyor. John holds a Bachelor’s degree, where he received First Class Honors, reflecting his dedication to his work.

His commitment to his profession has been recognised through numerous prestigious awards, including the BOSSI Surveyor Generals Prize and the Harvey Prize, which acknowledged his excellence in town planning and overall performance in his registration exams.

Known for his thorough approach, John takes great pride in the quality and presentation of his work. He is particularly drawn to complex land and titling matters, enjoying the challenge they present. John ensures that each project he undertakes is completed with meticulous attention to detail, overseeing it from start to finish, while always striving for the best and most efficient outcome.

Jacob

Jacob

Senior Environmental & Bushfire Consultant

Jacob is a BPAD Level 2 Accredited Bushfire Consultant with the Fire Protection Association Australia (FPAA). He holds a Master’s in Environmental Science and Management, a Graduate Diploma of Bushfire Protection, and a Bachelor of Science in Geology.

With over six years of experience, particularly in the Wollongong & Shoalhaven areas Jacob specialises in the preparation of all types of bushfire assessment and documentation for development on bushfire prone land, working to evaluate sites, develop Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) ratings, and design wastewater systems that meet regulations while minimising environmental impacts.

As a GIS Analyst, Jacob uses QGIS and ENVI software to analyse spatial data, create maps, and inform bushfire management strategies. His skills in satellite imagery, vegetation classification, and spatial analysis support the development of BAL ratings and enhance land use planning and emergency response.

In his role as an environmental scientist, Jacob develops onsite wastewater reports for council submissions, assessing soil, topography, and hydrology. He prepares plans demonstrating wastewater disposal methodologies that comply with regulatory requirements following an evaluation of the environmental impacts of land development.

Jacob is working towards BPAD Level 3 accreditation.

Susan Edwards

Susan Edwards

Senior Town Planner

Susan graduated from the University of New England with a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning and is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).

Susan has extensive experience in the local government sector both NSW and Victoria in Development Assessment, Strategic Planning and Recreational Planning and has a range of strategic, coastal, rural, and recreation planning experience. With extensive experience in developing strategic plans and policies, master planning, plans of management, community engagement and facilitation.

Susan has completed the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Certificate in Engagement and Project Management Certificate. She has excellent understanding of project planning, management, development and delivery, particularly through a local government context to help achieve great planning outcomes and development results.

Tiana Phillips-Maynard

Tiana Phillips-Maynard

Senior Town Planner

Tiana, a Shoalhaven local, graduated from UNSW in 2017 with a Bachelor of Planning and is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).

Before joining SET Consultants, she worked in city and regional councils in NSW, assessing Development Applications (DAs), and spent a year as a student planner with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. These roles provided valuable experience in both council and government settings.

Tiana also lived in England, where she worked in the private sector, tackling the complexities of planning within the English Green Belt and focusing on heritage conservation.

Specialising in a broad range of projects from small residential developments to large-scale 48-unit industrial complexes, Tiana brings expertise in greenfield subdivisions, commercial, industrial, rural, and tourism developments. She’s adept at managing change-of-use applications, preparing environmental reports, and resolving compliance issues. Tiana’s approach integrates strategic constraints mapping, balancing environmental, social, and economic factors for sustainable development outcomes.

Chantelle Duykers holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science from Flinders University and brings hands-on experience in environmental management, urban planning, and stakeholder engagement.
