Director: Registered Surveyor
Graduating with a Bachelor of Surveying from the University of NSW in 1983, Simon returned to Nowra to join Yates and Watkinson. Registration as a Surveyor in NSW and Membership with the Institution of Surveyors followed in 1985. In 1993, Simon became a partner with Watkinson Apperley Pty Limited (now SET Consultants). Simon continues to embrace and evolve with advancements within the surveying industry while enjoying building community in a regional context for society, the profession and the workplace.
Away from the workplace, Simon managed a parallel career of 21 years with the Australian Army Reserve, serving with the corps of Royal Australian Engineers. These days the quest for difference, adventure and responsibility are found in performing duties as a topman on the square rig sailing ship, James Craig.
Director: Civil Engineer
Adrian completed a double degree in 1998 at Newcastle University receiving First Class Honours in both Civil Engineering and Surveying. Upon graduation Adrian worked for two years as the Site Engineer on a major civil works project providing valuable understanding of construction before joining SET in 2000 in the role of Civil Design and Project Management. With over 20 years in land development Adrian has built up a wide range of experience in all stages and types of development.
Adrian is a firm believer in attention to detail, for finding solutions tailored to individual sites and that good communication can ensure that the end result meets the goals of all stakeholders.
Director: Environment Engineer
David is a highly qualified and experienced Environment Engineer with a Master of Environmental Engineering Science, Graduate Diploma in Bushfire Protection and First Class Honours in a Bachelor of Environmental Science Advanced (Major in Land Resources). As a Practitioner in Bushfire Planning and Design David also holds the highest level of accreditation (Level 3) through FPA Australia and is Member of Planning Institute of Australia.
David’s expertise across the Environmental, Bushfire and Planning fields allow him to provide meaningful, holistic advice. He is focused on performance-based solutions and advocates strongly for our clients.
Principal Town Planner
Graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Town Planning, Rachel has spent 16 years working for Local Government including rapidly expanding western Sydney Councils and 10 years at Wollongong City Council. Seeking new challenges Rachel began working in the private sector in 2015. The skills and knowledge gained from her local government experience allow her to seamlessly guide clients through the planning process.
Rachel’s experience has been acknowledged by the Department of Planning with Rachel being appointed to the role of Independent Expert on Local Planning Panels since their inception. Rachel enjoys the challenge of dealing with larger developments and complex planning matters and works passionately for the best outcome for any given site. Rachel is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia.
Senior Civil Engineer
Graduating in July 2013 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours) from the University of Wollongong, Nathan primarily focuses on civil infrastructure and project management. Specifically, Nathan is experienced in designing road, drainage and sewerage infrastructure and works on all types of developments ranging from small-scale single lot designs to large-scale subdivisions.
Nathan also has a keen interest in hydrological and stormwater hydraulic analysis and has wide-ranging capabilities in the field of flood studies and interpreting flood information.
Senior Town Planner
Karen graduated from the University of NSW with a Bachelor of Town Planning (Honours Class 1) in 2001 and is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia. Karen worked for a number of Local Councils both in Sydney and the Illawarra prior to joining SET Consultants in 2014. Her experience in both local government and the private sector has equipped her with a comprehensive knowledge of NSW Planning Legislation and she is adept at handling complex and controversial planning matters.
Karen’s passion is for residential development of all scales and facilitating good design outcomes which improve the liveability of the end product. She also enjoys the challenge of working on Planning Proposals (re-zonings) and interacting with strategic policies and stakeholders.
Environmental & Bushfire Consultant
Nick graduated from Curtin University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Urban and Regional Planning. He has an excellent knowledge of both the Western Australian and New South Wales planning systems through his studies and work practice in these two states. Nick is a Graduate member of the Planning Institute of Australia and as a young professional he provides a fresh modern approach to planning issues.
